Always be ready for your next inspection!
From the creators of the Wear It Right! guidebooks, comes the greatest thing to happen to your next inspection. Everyone wants to look good in their dress uniforms. Unfortunately, even the shiniest insignias won't impress your commander if they're in the wrong spot. That's why we created this wallet-sized tool to help you position your insignias, medals, and ribbons as accurately and neatly as possible.
This handy tool is made from a durable translucent plastic, so you can see the actual measurements imposed on top of your uniform. Not to mention all markings are gold-leafed to stand out boldly against dark fabrics. The tool itself is as small as a credit card so you can carry it with you wherever you go. It contains all the most important measurements for U.S. and branch insignia for males, females, enlisted Soldiers, and officers. Combine that with the 3 3/8 inch ruler across that bottom edge and you have yourself the Swiss Army Knife for Wear and Appearance.
BADGE PLACEMENT:
Pick the appropriate letter (A, B or C) according to the insignia you are positioning. Place the corresponding dot on the appropriate reference point. For instance, enlisted occupational badges are placed 1/2 inch above ribbons. So you would align the A dot at the top of your ribbons and measure up. Then simply place the proper insignia so it touches the edge of the card. This will give you the correct placement for the insignia (Figure 1).
Occupational badge:
- Male and Female Enlisted: Centered midway between shoulder and top button, 1/2 inch above ribbons.
- Male and Female Officer: Centered midway between shoulder and top button, 1/2 inch above medals.
Duty or Misc. badge :
- Male Enlisted: Centered 1 1/2 inches below the top of the welt pocket.
- Female Enlisted: 1/2 inch above the name tag.
- Male and Female Officer: Centered 1/2 inch below bottom row of medals.
Missile Badge:
- Male and Female Enlisted: Centered 1 1/2 inches below top of
welt pocket.
- Male Officer: Centered 1/2 inch below bottom row of medals.
- Female Officer: 1/2 inch above name tag or 1 1/2 inch below top of welt pocket.
US. INSIGNIA PLACEMENT:
Your U.S. Insignia must touch (but not cover) the midpoint of the seam on your lapel.
D1. To find the midpoint of the seam, you must measure the length the seam first. Place the card so the starting point of the ruler is aligned to the outside edge of the left lapel and touching the seam. Find the letter (E–L) that lines up with the other edge of your lapel. (In the case of Figure 2.1, the collar edge aligns to the letter F).
D2. After you have found the appropriate letter. Align the top edge of the tool with your lapel seam, align the left of the tool with your collar notch. On the top edge of the device, find the corresponding letter derived from step D1. Place your insignia so it touches the corresponding letter derived from step D1. Your insignia is now properly place.
To place your insignia on the right collar, follow steps 1 and 2 measuring from inside of the right collar (Figure 2.3).
